Meet Our Wonderful Team

Tim Maitland

Head of School

It is an honour and pleasure to work with such a great team of people that help to create a positive environment that is supportive, collaborative and open to new ideas. The level of commitment shown by teachers and staff from all departments in the school is clearly on display when you walk through the corridors and into the classrooms. We are a small, family-oriented community, which allows our teachers and staff to have a personalised approach to their work and deliver excellent service provision.

Families at NZSJ should feel a sense of belonging in a community that is supportive and responsive. Our students are at the heart of our community and their engagement and commitment to learning resonates throughout the school. Their desire to understand the world and explore new ideas and concepts with curiosity and an open mind keeps us striving forward as we guide them through their educational journey.

Mr. Jack

Teacher

Hi everybody! I'm Jack, and I'm from a small town in the north of England called Todmorden. I've been teaching overseas since 2014 in Japan, Spain, China and I became Lead Secondary Teacher here at New Zealand School Jakarta in 2022. My background is in English teaching - I have a Master's in TESOL - however I also have experience of teaching a range of subjects to students aged 2 to 82! I'm incredibly happy and proud to be a part of such a progressive and forward-thinking community; I believe that inquiry and project-based learning is the future of education and it's so heartening to be surrounded by like-minded colleagues, families and learners. Outside of the classroom, I am a huge sports and music fan. On any given evening or weekend you'll likely find me running, playing and watching football or browsing one of Jakarta's many record stores!

I am so excited to be a part of this amazing academic team and among these incredible, fascinating students at New Zealand School Jakarta. I grew up in a small town in Michigan, USA. I graduated in 2010 with a BA in Elementary Education and English and am currently working on an MA in Reading to become a Reading Specialist. After graduating in 2010, I moved to South Korea to teach ESL for four years. This is my sixth year teaching in various schools in Indonesia. I have taught grades 11-12 in English and Drama, and grades 2-5 in primary schools here. My passions are helping students meet their literacy goals, dancing with my students, and physical education.

Ms. Kailyn

Teacher

Hi folx! My name is Kailyn and I am delighted to be a part of the beautiful community at the New Zealand School Jakarta. I grew up just outside of Toronto, Canada and have been an international teacher since 2011 at schools in Thailand, Ukraine and Jakarta. Most of my classroom experience has been in co-creating inquiry-rich, play-based classrooms in the early years and lower primary but recently I have also enjoyed working with youth and adults. My passion lies in supporting children, teachers and parents in developing holistic wellbeing and I look forward to continuing this work with you all as well. I received my M. Ed. in Mindfulness for Educators and Ed.D specializing in Social-Emotional Learning, both from Antioch University in the US. I currently live in South Jakarta with my family and when I’m not at work you can find me playing board games, devouring a book, walking in my neighbourhood, meditating, doing a yoga or dance class, or trying out some new healthy recipes!

Mr. Adam

Teacher

Hi everyone!

My name is Adam and I am originally from Epsom, just outside of London, UK. I first moved to Indonesia in 2007, where an initial plan to teach and travel around the world was scuppered by a love for the endless Indonesian islands and the friendly nature of the Indonesian people. After gaining my PGCE and Masters in Education from Nottingham University in the UK, I have been working in Jakarta for over 15 years as both a Primary English teacher, and more recently as a Primary Homeroom teacher. I believe that through inquiry-focused learning activities and collaboration, learners have the opportunity to thrive and become global citizens. Aside from work, I love travelling the Indonesian archipelago with my kindle in one hand and camera in the other! Despite my main passion being football, I also love swimming, boxing, and walking my dogs – although it could be argued that they walk me!

Ms. Leslie

Teacher

Hey everyone, I'm Leslie! Since 2023, I've been a proud member of the vibrant community here at New Zealand School Jakarta in Lower Primary and now in Kindergarten. I received my Bachelor's Degree in English Education from the State University of Jakarta, followed by a Master's Degree in Communication from the London School of Public Relations Jakarta. With over a decade of teaching experience, including five years as an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme teacher, I've had the joy of nurturing young minds, primarily in the reception level up to lower primary.

Being part of the New Zealand School Jakarta community has been a pleasure. The warm welcome and the joyful atmosphere make every day exciting. When I'm not shaping young minds, I'm embracing the joys of motherhood to my son. You'll often find me singing, listening to music, or cooking delightful treats during my free time. : )

Ms. Eveline

Teacher

Tēnā koe!

My name is Eveline. I graduated with a Bachelor of Education from Universitas Negeri Jakarta in 2016. I’ve been teaching Preschool for 6 years. My passion lies in teaching children essential literacy and numeracy skills through the power of play, while also guiding them to enhance their motoric skills and nurturing their emotional growth. Among the many wonderful activities I share with the children, circle time holds a special place in my heart, fostering engagement and inclusivity between both teachers and students. Beyond my teaching life, I find joy in singing and dancing during my spare time. Additionally, I have a great interest in learning Maori culture, which includes singing and dancing to Maori songs and reading books for children like "Ten Tuatara” and “Taniwha".

Ms. Indah

Teacher

Hi, it's Indah! My passion for English began in junior high school and has only grown since then. During my undergraduate studies, I specialized in English Language Education, and I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in the same field. My teaching journey started in 2018 while I was still in university, where I volunteered to teach English to underprivileged learners on the outskirts of Bandung City. After graduating, I worked with several reputable organizations, including English First (EF), before joining New Zealand School Jakarta. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of teaching students of all ages, from young learners to adults. Teaching young learners brings me immense joy, especially when I get to sing songs, read fun stories, and create engaging games for them. Outside the classroom, I enjoy playing Scrabble and solving crosswords. In fact, I won several Scrabble competitions at my university in 2018 and 2019!
