Primary School

Our primary school program applied the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC), which is offers an inquiry-based holistic approach to education

Our Principles

Creative

Creating dynamic classrooms with engaging and fun activities that “hook” students and encourage natural curiosity, ownership of their learning directions and active learning for life.

Encouraging

Catering for the whole person, we teach to your child’s needs, not merely curriculum expectations. Integrating cross-curricular academic, social and physical skills to develop the whole child and encourage special strengths and abilities.

Developing

Giving individual attention to children by building and developing respectful learning relationships with them. This provides a safe and stable base for them to explore new (and challenging) ideas and skills.

New Zealand Curriculum

NZSJ applies the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC), which is aligned with the above principles and offers an inquiry-based holistic approach to education,  promoted through the learning areas of:

  • English
  • The Arts
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Learning Languages
  • Mathematics and Statistics
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Technology

We consider that the holistic nature of this curriculum offers our children a solid foundation that will set them up for success as they grow, explore and contribute in this world.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

At NZSJ, learning goes far beyond the walls of the classroom. We believe in creating rich, real-world learning experiences that connect students to their community, environment, and the wider world. Whether it’s through hands-on inquiry projects, student-led events like our bazaar, field trips, performances, service learning or participation in competitions, our students are encouraged to explore, question and engage in meaningful ways. These experiences help them build essential life skills such as collaboration, creativity, problem-solving and empathy.
